Christmas in the Selva

These past 2 weeks have been rather exciting. This is the rainy part of the year, so it usually rains in the mornings for a few hours just before we wake up, and it usually stops around 6-7. But sometimes it doesn't, and that's always pretty cool because then we get to walk in 1 foot deep water to go eat breakfast. But when it rains REALLY hard for a long time, then fun things happen. Like this past week where there was so much water in our backyard that the impressive drainage (which consists of a pipe with a 10 inch diameter and another with a 3 inch diameter with trenches to collect the water and direct it to these pipes) system just couldn't handle it and our house flooded.

We also had a baptism for someone named Marco. He's really awesome and totally changed his life from being miserable and awful to now being a super happy and awesome guy.

Christmas was pretty cool, we have the biggest house in our zone, and there's a small city 2 hours away from Iquitos that is in our zone, so the zone leaders had those 4 elders stay with us overnight for Christmas, and that was really awesome, because we then got to hang out with them all of christmas day.

The day before Christmas there was a conference in the Mission home, which was really awesome because the Mission President is from mexico, and so he and his family made us mexican food!! It was super awesome.

Then I got to call my family with Skype, which was pretty great (except the part where Skype didn't want to let me hear what they were saying, but we thankfully figured that out.)

But no one got Christmas packages this week, and probably won't for another month or two because the Mail service in Lima is on strike, and so NOTHING is going through.
